Embroidered tote bags in bulk: machine and hand embroidery for branding

Two cotton tote bags with small embroidered floral motifs and a canvas tote with an embroidered leaf motif, all fully visible on an oak bench in a beige studio

Boutiques, gift companies and brands choose embroidery when the bag has to feel like part of the product. A stitched logo reads as quality in a way printed ink does not, and it lasts the life of the bag. This guide covers the questions buyers ask before ordering embroidered totes in bulk: which method, what artwork to send, and how sampling works.

Embroidery or print?

Screen print lays ink flat on the fabric and suits large artwork, bold colour fills and photographic detail. Embroidery stitches the design in thread, so the logo sits raised on the fabric with a textured, finished feel. Stitched logos handle washing and daily use well, which is why boutiques and gift lines pick embroidery for bags that carry the brand for years. For a fuller comparison of print options, see our guide to tote bag printing methods.

Machine and hand embroidery

Machine embroidery sews the same digitised design identically across hundreds of pieces, which suits company logos and repeat retail programmes. Hand embroidery gives slight variation from piece to piece and suits botanical and decorative motifs on gift and boutique lines, like the designs across our embroidered tote bags range. Both are available on cotton and canvas totes; tell us which look you want in the quote form.

Artwork and stitch setup

Send your logo or motif as a clear image or vector file. Before stitching, the artwork is digitised: converted into a stitch file that sets the direction, density and order of the stitches. You confirm the embroidery size and placement, whether centre front, corner or above a pocket, and thread colours are matched to your brand colours. Simple shapes and lettering with clean outlines stitch most cleanly; very fine detail and gradients are better printed.

Fabric and bag choices

Embroidery needs a fabric with enough body to hold stitches without puckering. Canvas tote bags are the most forgiving base for larger stitched logos. Cotton tote bags in heavier fabric weights take smaller logos neatly. Very light fabrics suit print more than stitching, so tell us the design size and we will suggest the fabric in the quote.

Approve a sample first

On bulk runs the embroidery is confirmed on a real bag before production: stitch quality, thread colours, size and placement on the actual fabric. Our sample approval checklist covers what to check when the sample arrives.
